The book contains the memoirs of Taras M. Kokhno, the son of Protopriest Mykyta Kokhn of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church during its first revival in the 1917–1930s. Mykyta Kokhn was an active participant in the Ukrainian national liberation and church independence movements. The memoirs also include supplementary additions by his brother, Valentyn M. Kokhn.

The author recounts his childhood during the time of the Holodomor, his youth in pre-war and Nazi-occupied Kharkiv, and his postwar life in Germany and the United States.

The book is intended for everyone interested in the history of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the history of Ukraine in general.
