The book brings together, for the first time in Ukrainian historiography, a collection of chronicle-related historical texts — including chronicles, brief annals, compilations, and registers — created between the 16th and 19th centuries. These works originated both in major cultural centers and in various regions across Ukraine, which is why they are referred to as regional chronicles.

The authors and compilers drew partly on earlier chronicle compilations and partly on their own accounts of historical events. Some of the compilers are known by name, while others remain anonymous.

As a result, the volume offers a unique mosaic-like history of Ukraine, assembled from multiple local perspectives. This diversity makes the book an especially valuable and fact-rich source for studying Ukraine’s past.
