This work is a collection of intellectual biographies of ten prominent Ukrainian historians and thinkers from the second half of the 19th to the early 21st century. Their scholarly and public activities laid the ideological foundations for Ukraine’s independence and contributed to the development of national state-oriented thought during the long period of Ukrainian subordination to the Russian Empire and the USSR.
