This volume is the first publication of archival materials from the General Description of Left-Bank Ukraine (1765–1769) relating to the city of Konotop, part of the Konotop Company of the Nizhyn Regiment. The documents offer a detailed snapshot of the socio-economic structure of the region, including data on households, demographics, age, origins, and family relations of the local population within the Hetmanate.

Volume 1 focuses on records concerning the Cossack officer class and the clergy, shedding light on their status, landholdings, and roles within the community.
