This publication is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Vasyl Ovsiienko, a public figure, journalist, historian of the dissident movement, and prisoner of conscience, who spent thirteen and a half years in captivity for "anti-Soviet propaganda and agitation" and was recognized as a "particularly dangerous recidivist." The book includes the jubilarian's account of his family, childhood, personal development, and life "universities." The author, relentless toward himself, perceives the trials that befell him as atonement for his "sins" during his first arrest.

Additionally, the book features articles and reflections about Ovsiienko from his fellow inmates, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. All of them testify to Vasyl Ovsiienko as a multifaceted and active personality: a modest advocate for the national cause, a tireless collector of materials on the history of Ukrainian dissidence, an objective researcher, editor, and compiler of many socially significant publications, as well as an author of memoirs about his fellow prisoners.
