This book examines the historical background, economic foundations, and both internal and external causes behind the formation of the so-called “Crimean knot,” while also outlining possible scenarios for its resolution. The author considers Crimea as a crucial geopolitical focal point shaped by imperial ambitions, economic interests, and identity conflicts.

The study argues that the cynicism of the events known as the “Crimean Spring” of 2014 produced an unexpected effect for Russia’s ruling circles. Ukraine temporarily lost Crimea, but Russia lost Ukraine and Ukrainians forever. The slogan “Crimea is ours!” widely promoted by Russian mass media, along with the annexation itself, became one of the most powerful accelerators of Ukrainian nation-building, strengthening the foundations of civil society and contributing to the development of modern Ukraine.
