This book examines the impact of Soviet totalitarian ideology on the Ukrainian language and the ideologically driven interference in lexicographic practice. The author analyzes the mechanisms of ideological “reframing” of vocabulary, through which entire lexical fields — including political, religious, and artistic terminology — were assigned meanings and interpretations shaped by state ideology.

The study demonstrates how such practices led to the narrowing of the Ukrainian lexical system and its forced standardization through alignment with Russian equivalents. Special attention is given to lexicographic techniques of ideological manipulation during the Soviet era, as well as to key trends in contemporary Ukrainian lexicography.
