In this collection of essays, the author analyzes more than eight hundred slogans of Ukrainian resistance, focusing primarily on the Euromaidan period of 2013–2014 and the subsequent developments in modern Ukraine. Drawing on sociolinguistics and discourse analysis, the essays present the rhetoric of social and political change in a scholarly yet accessible journalistic style.

Readers will discover how language shapes identities and values, reflects social transformation, and contributes to collective memory. The book traces the dynamics of revolutionary rhetoric in comparison with earlier Ukrainian protest movements — the Revolution on Granite (1990) and the Orange Revolution (2004) — as well as with protest demonstrations in other countries.

The author shows how revolutionary slogans served key social functions such as mobilization and solidarity, while also fulfilling linguistic roles — communicative, expressive, and poetic — becoming part of the audiovisual image of the Maidan and an element in the formation of collective memory. Particular attention is paid to the linguistic diversity of protest language, where verbal aggression and linguistic softening intertwine, archaic and modern features coexist, and elements of standard language merge with sociolects such as surzhyk, “Azirov-style” speech, jargon, and slang.
